Eucalyptus   :

Eucalyptus is an aromatic herb with properties that provide significant relief as a decongestant and expectorant. For centuries, Vick's, made from rubbing eucalyptus, has been applied to the back and chest of a person suffering from a cold or other respiratory distress. It is known to loosen mucus in the chest so that it can be coughed up. Eucalyptus also has some antibiotic properties associated with it. Eucalyptus has both internal and external uses. Internally, the leaves used in herbal teas can help people by acting as a diuretic, antidiabetic, and also has some antitumor properties. Eucalyptus oil is never used internally or ingested, but in rare cases, a physician may use a small amount for nasal congestion, bronchial ailments, and other respiratory problems. Externally, eucalyptus is used as a vapor rub, and while it is recommended for rubbing on the chest and back, it is also beneficial for inhalation through methods such as vaporizers. Some even boil water and drop a teaspoon of vapor rub into it so the sick person can inhale the fumes, which help loosen congestion in the lungs. People have often used this same rub for sprains, bruises, and muscle aches. Never underestimate the power of eucalyptus oil, as it can be beneficial for several reasons. First, it is a very strong antiseptic, used to treat gingivitis. It is often used to treat burns as well. One thing you can count on is that insects do not like eucalyptus, so if you mix some with water and put it in a spray bottle, you can be sure that insects will stay away. A small drop on the tip of the tongue is said to relieve nausea. Many people will soak a cloth in eucalyptus and place it in their closets or cabinets to ward off insects and cockroaches. Another quick tip is that some eucalyptus inhalation is said to help someone who has fainted, and when mixed with cinnamon, it is known to relieve flu symptoms. Eucalyptus is also commonly used in aromatherapy as well, as it is very beneficial when combined with other oils. The effects of eucalyptus are stimulating and balancing, and the aroma is very woody. For aromatherapy purposes, it blends well with juniper, lavender, and marjoram. Eucalyptus, when used in aromatherapy, benefits the body as it helps relieve mental fatigue, improves clarity and mental alertness, sharpens the senses, refreshes and invigorates, stimulates and energizes. It also has great effects on the body as it feels cooling. It relieves aches and sore muscles, loosens congestion, and reduces inflammation. Eucalyptus combined with aromatherapy provides pure pleasure. Inhaling the fragrance of eucalyptus can reduce stress and decrease depression. It gives an overall sense of better well-being. Eucalyptus is great for bath and massage oils as well.
